Events Calendar
The SMWS hosts both volunteer engagement activities and information & education events throughout the year. Volunteer engagement activities take place year-round and are mostly focused on riparian restoration projects or invasive plant removals in the S’amunu/Somenos Watershed. You can learn more about the volunteer events at volunteer. Our information & education events take place mostly in October during the WildWings Nature and Arts Festival, an annual series of community events that coincide with the Cowichan Valley’s late fall arrival of the iconic Trumpeter Swans, North America’s largest waterfowl. Established in 2010 by the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society, the purpose of the month-long festival is to bring attention to the important natural ecosystems of the Cowichan Valley by using nature as a background to celebrate the interconnectedness of nature, art, culture, and community. To learn more about WildWings please visit the WildWings website.
