Somenos Creek Walk

  • 2359 Beverly St Duncan, BC, V9L 2Z7 Canada (map)

Join Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society President Paul Gowland for an informative walk along Somenos Creek. The walk will begin at the dog park on Beverly St., proceed along the creek to the Somenos Garry Oak Protected Area, and then return to the start point. Total time for this walk will be 1.5 to 2 hours. Paul will discuss the significance of the Somenos watershed, and the role played by Somenos Creek. This creek has a number of issues that impact on water quality and salmon health. We will witness the spread of the invasive aquatic weed known as Parrots Feather. The walk will pass by Ye'yumnuts, a site of great importance for indigenous culture and history. The turn around point will be at the Garry Oak protected area - we will discuss why this area is protected and why it is a rare and special ecosystem. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle
